The Australian Institute of Applied Logistics (IAL) was established in 1999 specifically to provide supply chain management, logistics and business improvement services to industry. We are a not-for-profit organisation that was set up through the efforts of the Logistics Association of Australia (SA Division), the Transport Training Advisory Board in South Australia, Transport & Distribution Training Australia and the Board of the Logistics Education Centre Ltd. This group had identified the need in Australia for specific training in supply chain and logistics management.
Start-up funding was provided by a grant from the Australian National Training Authority (ANTA) and land from the State government, with donations in kind provided by industry. IAL’s ongoing existence is entirely self-funded and accountable to a national logistics industry board.
Education and Career Pathways The Australian Institute of Applied Logistics provides competency-based and nationally recognised training to industry, short customised courses to address specific needs within a single company as well as consultancy and business improvement services. IAL’s delivery methods include face-to-face, workplace based and on-line training.
The Institute is unique in being able to provide a pathway in Logistics through Certificate I to Masters Degree, via training, brokerage and partnering arrangements. IAL provide competency-based training, at Certificate I - VI levels, for the Transport and Distribution Industry, including Supply Chain Management, Procurement, Inventory Management, Road Transport, Warehousing, Administration and Stevedoring. At the Certificate level, we also provide training in Business Administration, Front Line Management, and Workplace Assessment & Training.
The Institute’s program is focussed on Logistics and Supply Chain Management at Diploma and Advanced Diploma levels. The Advanced Diploma is recognised by the University of South Australia, one of our strategic partners, which provides credit for one subject in the Graduate Certificate in Business Administration, which is the first stage of a Masters in Business Administration and soon a Masters in Supply Chain.
IAL are the national Registered Training Organisation for the newly accredited, (July ’04), Australian Procurement & Inventory Control Society (APICS), Certificate 4 and Diploma.
Client Base Our emphasis is on providing logistics and supply chain related training for corporations. Rather than advertising the availability of courses to the public at large, IAL’s approach is to assess the whole workforce or individual employees of a corporate client, and place them at appropriate levels, within customised, competency-based training programs.
